Last weekend I spent a day here, taking part in this event, making things and meeting a bunch of really cool people. Hugh and Luke from Sandows were amongst said cool people, giving a talk on their business and cold brew coffee. Their story was really interesting but what really intrigued me was the Cold Brew Gin and Tonic that they mentioned. It sounded so wrong it had to be right. So of course I went straight home and tried it.
The result was so good, I did some further experimenting and made an alcohol free version as well. Mainly for people who, like me, prefer coffee pre-noon and you know at an age where you start to worry about what time you're having caffeine, you're probably too old to be partaking in am drinking. Unless it's for super important blogging research obvs.
Cold Brew Gin + Tonic
Into a tall glass, put a handful ice cubes, then pour tonic water until the glass is two thirds to the top. Pour in a shot (25ml) of gin and finally a shot of cold brew. Garnish with lemon peel.
Cold Brew Tonic Berry Mocktail
Make a simple syrup by simmering half cup each of sugar and water plus 1 cup of smooshed berries of your choosing over low heat with a small slice of ginger and squeeze of lemon juice. After about 10 mins remove from the heat, strain and cool completely.
