What I’ve been grateful for:
The little things. Like my husband making me coffee every morning while I sleep in for an extra 10 minutes.
Health. I've been dreading going to the doctor for months for a check up and finally went last week. Of course everything was totally fine and not worth the stress I was putting on it.
What I’ve been thinking about:
Blogging, consistency and quality over quantity. For a couple of months there I was getting really stressed about keeping up with all dat blogging so I have decided to focus on posting something more solid once a week (every tuesday) plus a Head + Heart in the first week of each month. Phew! That's better.
Collaborating more. Who wants to work with me on something??
No judgement. I am horrified at how Caitlin Stacey is being treated as a result of challenging the ridiculous perception people have about how a lady should act. I am 100% behind her and not attacking others for what they choose to do with their bodies or lives. If someone wants to show their butt and/or boobs, who cares? All the power to them. Let's stop handing out excuses to sexists and rapists and start treating people as we want to be treated. On a slightly lighter but completely relevant note, Margaret Zhang also wrote a post on her blog a little while back about just wearing whatever the heck we want and to stop judging each other at such a skin deep level. It's a vicious cycle that totally destroys confidence and progress. Let's teach our children about diversity and empower them to express themselves however they choose.
What I’m excited for:
An upcoming creative weekend with friends in September. More soon!
A new year. Well, a financial one but I'm still taking the opportunity to flip over a new leaf.
What I’ve been doing:
Embracing down time. I've had a pretty quiet month as far as work goes. I tried to embrace it by taking it a little slower, allowing myself to rest so that when things get busy again I'm ready to give it my all.
Spring (winter?) cleaning. Getting rid of as much clutter as possible. I am also being much more mindful of anything I bring into our home.
Making 150 or so cookies. For the past week I have been up to my eyeballs in cookie dough making some more sugar cookies (remember these?) for a set of workshops run by Raw Digital + Film Lab. I'm really liking it and want do this sort of thing more.
What I’ve been reading:
Audio Books. Listening to a little bit of Cooked by Michael Pollen on audible each day.
Magazines. Alphabet Family Journal and Cereal.
What I’ve been spending money on:
Travel. I booked flights to South Africa with my mum in August for my grandmother's 80th birthday. I felt a little guilty because we just got back from the US but I realised I'm not going to wake up in 20 years and wish I had stayed home that time in 2014 earning more money to buy a nicer car. I am going to be really glad I spent as much time with my family as possible.
Putting money back into my business. It's hard putting my earnings straight into new equipment rather than shoes but also a little exciting to grow my business.
What have YOU guys been up to? And what are you looking forward to for this month (and the second half of the year!)? Tell me!
